ERROR CORRECTION

1. When I first heard that I had been accepted to Middle East Technical Unıversity I was disappointed because I did not like Ankara as a city. However, my opinions have changed over time dramatically as Middle East Technical Unıversity is really a different world in Ankara.

2. It has been only one month since I came here but I got used to this environment. For, first of all, people from all ages in here respect to each other.

3. I love Ankara, my dormitory, my new friends and my department. I am content with everything which  belongs to METU.

 4. If someone wants to walk, he or she can go and walk and  it is also nice place to go and meet with my friends

5. We can easily see this by watching TV, surfing on the internet or maybe just looking around us. Although  there are many people  who are graduated from different kinds of universities, they are not even able to know what is going on around them or they do not even try to find good ways to improve the countries that they live in.

YOUR SLOGAN FOR METU

When I watched this video I was really impressed by what it emphasizes. It makes me think that I am in a privileged university which has a unique culture of education.

As for content of the video, the emphasized ideas are mostly true and they are not much exaggerated, I think. METU students question, investigate and have a free mind, they improve their society by free thinking. They know how to emancipate themselves from mental slavery. The motto ‘we can change the world’ can be achieved by METU students through idealism and revolutionism mentioned in video.

The slogan ‘I brain ODTÜ’ is exactly what reflects an ODTÜ student’s wiseness and free thinking ability. ODTÜ has such spiritual and inspirational features that it has a totally different place among universities in Turkey and even in world. ODTÜ students share their ideas, beliefs freely and they are respectful for other’s ideas. They have no limitations about anything.

As a conclusion, ‘I brain ODTÜ’ is really a creative and wonderful motto in terms of reflection of mentality in ODTU. If I was to put a slogan it would be the shortened or changed part of this main idea: ‘ODTU emancipates yourself from mental slavery’.

AN IDEAL UNVERSITY

I think an ideal university should have many facilities. Firstly, it should have well-equipped classes, intellectual academic staff and a good education program. This is a must by most aspects because otherwise the students studying in that university will not be qualified ones.

An ideal university is to have a good campus, a well-organized constructional plan for buildings of departments, sufficient roads and transportation system for students. By that way, students will have a chance to go wherever they want in a short time and to have fun when they get bored.

Finally, an ideal university should have many social facilities that students can improve themselves freely such as sport teams, social clubs, night parties spring festivals, concerts, conferences, seminars etc. If a student’s attention is drawn into some social clubs he becomes a socially-integrated person to society and break some social phobias he has within.

I think METU fits all the criteria I have set for my ideal university. Of course it has some problems practising some things but they are just expections so METU is much pretty an ideal university for me.

BEING A METU STUDENT

 First of all, to be honest, I have never dreamed of being a METU student. I have always dreamed of being in Bosphorus. But I am here and mostly happy.

There are many advantages of being here. I stay in eighth dormitory and this dormitory has a fame for being funny all through Turkey. There are funny guys, strange habits and creative jokes in my dormitory. It is close to shopping malls, restaurants, cafeteria, gymnasium and Devrim Stadium which is very benefical for me. Our campus is one of the best ones in Turkey, I think. Ring busses take students to Faculty of Education before and after classes for free. They are pretty much useful. If they didn't exist, it would take too long time to go to Faculty of Education. There are great and variable social clubs that we can attend whenever we want. For example, I am attending Ultimate Frizbee Team, Photography Club, Radio Club and IEEE. Apart from such things related with campus or social opportunities, we have wonderful and sophisticated teachers who are pretty much good at their job.

As can be guessed, there are some challenges that we have to cope with. Firstly, life is expensive here. For instance, I go to a shopping mall, like one piece of t-shirt but unfortunately I can not afford to pay it! Eating outside is expensive, too. If you want to eat something tasty, you have to pay at least ten boxes. We are just students who are dependent on our families for financial support! As I am away from my hometown, I sometimes become homesick and miss my family and friends. Distance between places is another problem for me. When rings do not work I may have to walk too much.

By most aspects, I love METU and i think being a student of it is privileged. I assume that as the time goes by i will get accustomed to live here and be familiar with its every square meters!
